Physiotherapy Information

Physiotherapists practice view human movement as central to an individual's health and well-being. Through a range of techniques, physiotherapists can identify and maximise an individual's movement potential through health promotion, preventive healthcare, treatment and rehabilitation.

The key issue to satisfactory recovery through physiotherapy is to treat the body in terms of bio- mechanical forces - all have an influence on each other.

So how do we go about treating patients?

We undertake a systematic assessment involving subjective questioning and objective standard orthopedic tests to identify the damaged structures causing the patients problems and arrive at a Diagnosis or Clinical Impression.

We then undertake a treatment plan comprising of hands on treatment, advice and exercise paying attention to best practice regarding the evolving evidence base for these treatments.

Most of our treatments involve treating damaged soft tissues at some stage of the inflammatory process .i.e. acutely inflamed and painful; sub-acute early stage healing but vulnerable to further damage or chronically fibrosed and stiffened.

Treatment may include spinal mobilisation and manipulation, soft tissue techniques e.g. deep frictions and stretching, joint mobilisation and manipulation techniques. We may enhance the physical treatments with electrotherapy in the form of ultrasound, interferential and laser.

A major part of our treatment approach involves explaining to patients what our diagnosis means and what the prognosis is and how they can help themselves with exercise and prevention.

All of the physiotherapists at The Wimborne Clinic are experts in the field of Musculo-Skeletal Medicine and Sports Injury diagnosis and treatment.
